Meira Blaustein
Meira Blaustein is the Co-founder / Executive Director / Programmer of the Woodstock Film Festival. Conceived in 1999, the WFF was launched in 2000, and has quickly become one of the most respected and influential regional film festivals in the USA. Blaustein has nearly thirty years of experience in filmmaking, producing and directing numerous shorts and documentaries including Reaching Out with Theater – The Monster Metropolis. Her full-length documentary about severely disabled children, For Love of Julian, narrated by Susan Sarandon and distributed by Wellspring Media, received critical acclaim. Blaustein has served as Program Director and Special Events Producer for film festivals and other film - related programs throughout New York State and New York City. She has programmed and coordinated screenings, seminars, concerts and events and has produced and directed dozens of screenplay readings at a variety of venues such as the Knitting Factory in NYC. Blaustein is a native of Israel and an alumn of the School of Visual Arts in NYC. She studied at the Art Institute of San Francisco and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Blaustein served as juror and panelist at a variety of film festivals and special events, including in Trondheim Norway, Austin Texas and New York City and Albany NY. She is a freelance writer and blogger for the Poughkeepsie Journal, covering film festivals. She is a member of NYWIFT and IFP, and the recipient of the 2007 Upstate Independent Spirit Award.
